Specifications

Jacksons Crossroads, near Tignall; Wilkes County, Georgia, USA
166mm x 110mm x 75mm
Excellent coverage of purple amethyst crystals to 16 mm across, growing atop colorless drusy quartz. Like many southeastern U.S. Piedmont amethysts, these crystals consist of short prisms with triangular terminations on both top and bottom; the bottom ones incomplete where the crystals are attached to matrix. The crystals are gemmy purple and transparent within the upper terminations, grading downward to lighter and more translucent amethyst within the prismatic portion of each crystal. Damage free, except for some contacting around the periphery of the specimen. A summary of this occurrence can be found in the Mineralogical Record, Volume 36, Number 6 (November – December, 2005), pages 479 – 486.
