Miniature (3.6 x 3.1 x 1.4 cm)

This specimen consists of a single transparent to translucent ruby-red cinnabar crystal 1.0 cm across, atop tan drusy calcite on a white dolomite matrix. Most Chinese cinnabar crystals have some edge chipping; this one is clean and totally undamaged. See the excellent article on Chinese cinnabar occurrences in the Mineralogical Record “China Issue”, Volume 36, Number 1 (January-February, 2005), pages 69 – 80.
