RUTILE “V-Twin”

5.5 x 3.2 cm v-twin

This is a very nice rutile from Graves Mountain!    It consists of one major and a couple of minor rutiles in a limonite-quartz-kyanite matrix. The main rutile measures 5.5 x 3.2 cm, and is a lustrous black V-twin. Nice matrix rutiles from this location are getting harder and harder to come by. For a great summary of this famous locality, see Mineralogical Record, Volume 16, Number 6 (November - December, 1985), pages 443-458.
