PHLOGOPITE on CALCITE
near Arandis
Swakopmund District
Erongo Region, Namibia 

Small Cabinet (7.5 x 6.8 x 5.1 cm)  

This specimen consists of a single, stepped pseudohexagonal phlogopite crystal 4 cm across, perched on calcite. Originally thought to be biotite, analysis ultimately proved the species to be phlogopite. From a brand new find – see a reference to this locality in the 2009 Tucson Show report in the Mineralogical Record, Volume 40, Number 3 (May-June, 2009), pages 254-255.
