CALCITE on Mercenaria permagna
Rucks’ Pit, near Fort Drum; Okeechobee County, Florida, USA

Cabinet (12.6 x 10.7 x 10.8 cm)

Single A+ Mercenaria clam filled with honey-yellow calcite crystals to 1 cm in length along the “bridge”, with smaller crystals elsewhere inside the clam. Sparse greenish-black spots between calcite crystals in the bottom of the clam are microscopic pyrite crystals (uncommon in Florida!). This specimen is aesthetically attached to shelly sparrite limestone matrix, and sits well for display. No damage.
